These images are what remains when the seer dissolves into seeing
Maurizio Chiocchetti (Mauchi) photographs in black and white. His practice does not set out to represent reality as an external object; it emerges from the way reality passes through seeing.
The images are not conceived as documents or narratives. They arise from situations in which perception becomes unstable and the familiar organisation of the visible shifts. What appears is neither explained nor illustrated, but left to manifest itself as visual presence.
Through a process of subtraction, light and shadow define space as an active element. The image does not resolve into a fixed meaning but remains open, suspended between presence and absence, form and void. There is no privileged point of view: each image exists as a relational field in which the viewer is already involved.
In Italy and Belgium he exhibits in independent and experimental spaces, including Spazio Nour (Antwerp/Milan), and in institutional venues such as Kasteel Hof d’Intere. Alongside the exhibitions he develops artist’s books and installations in which image, text and silence coexist without hierarchy.

Maurizio Chiocchetti (Mauchi) fotografeert in zwart-wit. Zijn werk wil de werkelijkheid niet weergeven als een uiterlijk object, maar komt voort uit de manier waarop de werkelijkheid het zien doordringt.
De beelden zijn niet bedoeld als documenten of verhalen. Ze ontstaan in situaties waarin de waarneming instabiel wordt en de vertrouwde ordening van het zichtbare verschuift. Wat verschijnt wordt niet uitgelegd of geïllustreerd, maar krijgt de ruimte om zich als visuele aanwezigheid te manifesteren.
Door een proces van weglating bepalen licht en schaduw de ruimte als actief element. Het beeld lost niet op in een vaste betekenis, maar blijft open, opgeschort tussen aanwezigheid en afwezigheid, vorm en leegte. Er is geen bevoorrecht standpunt: elk beeld bestaat als een relationeel veld waarin de kijker al betrokken is.
In Italië en België toont hij werk in onafhankelijke en experimentele ruimtes, waaronder Spazio Nour (Antwerpen/Milaan), en in institutionele locaties zoals Kasteel Hof d’Intere. Naast de tentoonstellingen ontwikkelt hij kunstenaarsboeken en installaties waarin beeld, tekst en stilte zonder hiërarchie samengaan.

Le immagini non sono concepite come documenti o narrazioni. Nascono da situazioni in cui la percezione diventa instabile e l’organizzazione familiare del visibile si sposta. Ciò che appare non viene spiegato né illustrato, ma lasciato manifestarsi come presenza visiva.
Attraverso un processo di sottrazione, luce e ombra definiscono lo spazio come elemento attivo. L’immagine non si risolve in un significato fisso, ma rimane aperta, sospesa tra presenza e assenza, forma e vuoto. Non esiste un punto di vista privilegiato: ogni immagine esiste come campo relazionale in cui lo spettatore è già coinvolto.
In Italia e in Belgio espone in spazi indipendenti e sperimentali, tra cui Spazio Nour (Anversa/Milano), e in sedi istituzionali come il Kasteel Hof d’Intere. Accanto alle mostre sviluppa libri d’artista e installazioni in cui immagine, testo e silenzio coesistono senza gerarchia.
